Brush Up for Homecoming 2010

Why You Should Join Theta Xi

Here at Kappa Chapter we pride ourselves on the fact that not a single Active member came to Rose-Hulman thinking they wanted anything to do with the Greek System, how quickly we convinced them they did.

We do not fit into the stereotypes usually associated with fraternities, well our house does, but we do not want it any other way. Our house is a fully paid off three story home that was built in 1906. The house itself comfortably houses 12 people but can accommodate many more.  The old feel of the house combines well with the modern additions which include new windows in all the common areas and a modern Ethernet network. Each room of our house has its own unique history associated with it including individual names. Our primary bathroom("Pa's John") has two individual stall showers, a urinal, and two sinks. There are two other half baths in the house. The old style of the house gives us two parallel stair cases rising up through the house, each with two beautiful wooden banisters and nice wooden floors through out most of the first floor. Laundry Facilities are provided as part of your house dues and are not charged per load. The house is located approximately 7 miles off campus on South 6th Street. This area has the three off campus Rose fraternities and several Indiana State fraternities. The location of the house makes it a great place to access the rest of the Terre Haute Area and is only an average of 12 minutes from campus.

Being on 6th Street we are only three blocks from the main artery of the city where you can find any type of restaurant or store you can imagine. For example we are within 5 minutes of delectable food ranging from Thai to home cooked BBQ and are even within walking distance of one of the two Japanese restaurants in town (Tokyo). Now you may be thinking that theres no way you could join Theta Xi because you don't have transportation to and from the house. Do not worry about that, we are a brotherhood and we look out for our brothers. Six of our current members do not have vehicles but if they need transportation to campus or back one of the brothers will come and get them.

Dues at Theta Xi are among the lowest if not the lowest of all Rose-Hulman Fraternities. We can afford this low price because we do not have a house payment to make. In house dues cover the utilities, Internet access, National Dues, house maintenance/supplies(toilet paper ect.), and a small amount that is placed into the fraternities savings in case of emergency repairs or to be used in conjunction with Alumni donations to renovate the house. Here at Theta Xi we are very relaxed and offer many ways of paying the dues. A primary way of paying dues is to personally fund the purchase of supplies or items that are used in projects that would have been purchased by the house any way. Currently dues stand at 980 in house and 380 out of house per quarter.  Dues are evaluated every few years to adjust to the current needs of the fraternity and our current number of members.

Our current number of members is 18 but we look at that number with a measure of pride. We are able to build a strong and personal bond with each one of our Brothers and no one gets lost in the crowd. As I have said before, not a single current member ever intended to join a fraternity and with that as our primary audience it makes our job of recruiting that much more difficult than the other Fraternities. We have found that if we can get a prospective member out to just one of our events, that is usually all it takes. Of course that does not mean it is easy to join, it means we can see the potential brother in you and you the potential brotherhood with us and when that happens you will see a bid card waiting for you.

Kappa Chapter has a long history and many stories to tell. Come and add your story to ours. We are just a band of Rose Students bonded in Brotherhood making our way through life relaxing and having fun. Come check us out, who knows you might just find the brotherhood your looking for.

What's the Best About Our Brotherhood?

Brotherhood is a lifelong connection to thousands of other members across the country. At Kappa chapter we have a large number of Alumni that continue to be an active part of the chapter for years after they have graduated. But even on the national level we can go any where there is a Theta Xi and know that he is a brother you can trust and treat him as if you have known him all your life. We are a small chapter, but the bonds that bind us all together in Brotherhood connects us with the many others around the country.
